The Keeper
About this field guide
Real birds. Real gear. Real spilled feed.
The Quail Keeper started the way most quail flocks do: with a city ordinance that said no to chickens and a stubborn desire for fresh eggs anyway. Coturnix quail turned out to be the loophole — quiet, tiny, legal almost everywhere, and laying by week eight.
Everything on this site comes from keeping an actual flock. Gear reviews are written after buying and using the equipment — feeders get their spillage measured, incubators get their hatch rates logged, and the products that didn't work get named too.
How we test
Products are purchased at retail unless otherwise noted. When a manufacturer provides a review unit, the entry says so. Affiliate links fund the feed bill; they never decide a verdict.
